Why don’t they listen?

I have been an Internet Marketer for some time now and had my share of people that would qualify for the ‘Clients from Hell” book….
I understand that the Internet is an overwhelming place for a lot of people and it seems that there is so much contradictory  (or downright misleading) advice out there!

However, recently I have come to the realisation that I need to take a firmer stance and set better boundaries.
I am the sort of person that takes pride in delivering great customer service and going that extra mile – but I am starting to feel a little jaded.
It is true that people just don’t value ‘free’ advice the same way as they do when they pay for it.

Latest Case in point, a client that has consistently ‘blamed’ me for not achieving Google ranking  results after only 3 or 4 blog posts on her new site! (of course spending money to do SEM or SEO was ‘out of the question’)

I tried to explain just what SEM (Search Engine Marketing) and SEO ( Search Engine Optimisation)are and how they are 2 very different pieces of the puzzle, when it comes to getting visibility on the Search Engines like Google, Yahoo & Bing.

To no avail.
Here is 1 snippet from such an email after I tried to explain the WYSIWYG editor in WordPress ..
“is the WYSIWYG what I put as a slash after web address as I see no nowhere else to put it?”

This followed a series of personal attacks on me in the same email!?
How would YOU deal with this??
PLEASE feel free to leave comments.

Instead of hearing facts- these clients hear ‘excuses’!

I felt the need to rant a little here…Sorry.
I hope that some of you potential clients reading this, when looking for Online Marketing Strategists to help you achieve real results,  will understand that after many proposals done ‘free of charge’ that take hours of my time- I have had enough!
I know I am not alone out there- somehow, people that have NO problem charging for their own time expect you to give yours away – it just doesn’t work that way.
Even though you don’t understand what’s involved and have no experience in what I do, you feel it’s  fine to tell me my job because “your brother in law said…” or some such.

Stop and realise that it generally takes years to really understand (and have experience in implementing) the complexity of marketing and branding across the various platforms that there are now online.

And  for Gods Sake- Pay me and then listen to my advice!
